Tip #1: Know Quote Timeliness

 

Generally, the quotations given to customers by the logistics industry are time-sensitive, ranging from one week to one month, because the quotations will be affected by factors such as the cost of the superior company or fuel prices. In view of this, when customers ask for quotations from other companies, it is best to ask them for the time limit for quotations, so as to avoid missing the budget. Furthermore, some international logistics/transportation companies will suddenly increase the freight for different reasons after receiving the goods. Therefore, before customers make a final decision, we suggest that they first learn about word-of-mouth and evaluation online.

 

 

 

Tip #2: Know Shipping Timelines

 

The delivery time and customs clearance methods of sea and air transportation are very different, so there is a big difference in the delivery time. Generally, it takes 1 week to 1 month to ship to Asia, and 2 to 4 months to Europe and America, depending on the shipping schedule and customs clearance speed. On the contrary, air freight can be completed in 1-4 days around the world. Even if the weight of the item and the number of boxes are large, or the destination customs requires the recipient to return the documents, customs clearance is usually completed within a few days.

 

 

 

Tip #3 : Choose Packaging Materials

 

Whether you choose international ocean freight or international air freight services, general items can be shipped in cartons, and customers can choose to pack them by themselves or have them packed by LHK Express. If you pack by yourself, you need to choose a suitable size and strong carton and packaging materials, try to fill the carton as much as possible and avoid overweight. We recommend no more than 25KG per box to avoid damage to the carton due to overweight. For packages delivered by LHK Express, we will package and manage each package to avoid delivery accidents!

 

For some large items such as bicycles, computers and musical instruments, it is difficult for customers to find suitable cartons and ensure that the packaging is strong, so it is recommended to leave it to our team for packaging to reduce the risk of delivery!

If sending fragile items, such as glass, utensils, ceramics, etc., remember to add several layers of bubble wrap and other buffers, affix a fragile item label, and send it in a separate carton. Fragile items can also be packaged independently by LHK Express!

 

 

 

Tip #4: Separate item importance and usage timeliness

 

Small and important items: such as goldware/electronic equipment, it is recommended to put them in carry-on or check-in luggage/deliver by air!

For large and important items: such as stereos, we will advise customers to ship them by air pallet!

Clothes: Clothes that are not in a hurry can be shipped, and clothes that are in a hurry can be shipped by air!

 

 

Tip #5: Find out what's on sale locally and how much it costs

 

When immigrating to another country, many people hope to send most of their personal belongings and furniture overseas, so as to save the trouble and money of re-purchasing furniture. But doing so will add to shipping costs, which can be more expensive than repurchasing locally. Taking home appliances as an example, the voltage and plug system of many countries that are popular for immigrants are different from those in Hong Kong. Most home appliances need to be replaced with transformers before they can be used.

However, some items are recommended to be purchased in Hong Kong before immigration, such as rice cookers and mobile phones.

Tip #6 : Know Prohibited and Restricted Items

 

Before sending items to the immigration destination, remember to understand the embargoed and restricted entry items of the local customs. There are relatively few restrictions in popular immigrant countries. Non-popular countries need to pay attention to local restrictions that may be imposed due to factors such as religion and disease prevention, so as to avoid customs clearance delays and rejections. Furthermore, do not put food in the immigration package! If you need to deliver food, please check with the customer service staff first!

 

 

 

 

Tip #7 : Know what you need to ship by air

 

The shipping company usually comes to your home to collect the items 1-2 weeks before your departure from Hong Kong. What to do with the rest of the items?

Three options:

1) Put it in carry-on or check-in luggage

2) Disposal

3) Shipping by air

 

If you put it in your carry-on or check-in luggage, remember to weigh the luggage in advance before departure. Most of the luggage compartments of immigration flights are full now, so even if the luggage is slightly overweight, airlines may charge passengers expensive surcharges!
